Italian Comfort Food
Savory Asparagus & Tomato Quiche Pies

Tom and I made this last year or so but I made it without the use of a food processor and it literally took me half the day to make the dish and despite how delicious it was, I was hesitant to try it again. Enter new food processor. Wow. WOW. It’s so easy (and so fast) with a food processor! This dish is now a staple in our house. It’s an adapted version of a recipe by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero. It’s GREAT for dinner parties or if you’re bringing a dish to share and has a very warm hearty (but light) feeling. Yuuuum. And happy Cinco de Mayo to those that celebrate! We’re making homemade tortillas and burritos tonight! Recipe.

Food as Medicine: Raw Chocolate Mousse

No, I am not crazy. You read correctly. A healthy chocolate mousse.
Cacao is good for your brain. I am not talking about the processed chocolate that has lost many of its nutrients. I am talking about using high quality cocoa powder or 99 – 95% bars. Cacao has a high level of antioxidants, and is one of the highest dietary sources of magnesium. It is also a source of serotonin, dopamine and phenylethylamine, which are said to help alleviate depression and increase feelings of well-beingThis is a dairy free recipe. A raw version. You will not believe how good this is!I was skeptical myself at first. I read the recipe and thought “no way!”.But I made it and I swear to you: It is the most amazing recipe. It taste just like (or even much better than) the “real” thing. You can use it for icing cakes and cupcakes, as a pie filling or serve it with slices of fruit (strawberry and banana are great options). Please give it a try. Trust me. It takes 10 minutes to make.(And after licking the spoon clean and fighting with your husband (or children) for the last bite let me know what you think.)The recipe is @ Cantina di Dom Fuas
mecca azteca

A salad, sure, but one of the most amazing things I have ever eaten. You will want to drink the mango lime dressing straight out of the blender, and I won’t even try to stop you. Also contains: mixed greens, quinoa, tomato, cucumber, jicama, red onion, avocado, roasted pumpkin seeds, dates, mango, and cayenne. From the Native Foods cookbook, which has yet to steer me wrong.
Mango Macadamia Coconut Pie – Raw Vegan

I had a left over macadamia coconut tart crust from when I made the key lime tarts from the book Raw Food Real World. I decided to whip together a mango mixture for it. It’s basically just pureed mango with a little coconut oil, cacao butter and a little sweetener.
I know. It’s food.

Whole wheat and hemp flour fettuccine pasta + tomato and basil sauce + chives + nutritional yeast + black olivesI love food shots, but i suck at them. Maybe i need some practice and better lighting. For much more inspired food images check tofu666, Seitti, Kajis Mom or sonicwalker.
