Taipei Food Heaven

EXPLORED #124 May 26, 2009If you go to Taipei, you can’t miss Taipei’s Shih Lin night market. There are literally hundreds of delicacies there. The market is only open from 6pm onwards and gets busier and busier as it gets closer to midnight. The food in Taipei is amazing! I started with the famous fried oyster, then went for squid soup, then went on for taiwanese sausage, then went on for …….. The only thing I could not enjoy eating is the smelly tofu. I have tried to put up with it thinking it will taste better than it’s odor, but I failed. I recommend people to try the tofu as it’s one of the iconic delicacies known in Taiwan. People said you never been to Taiwan if you haven’t tasted the famous smelly tofu.
I could hardly move at all when taking this shot. 3 shots taken (-1,0,1ev) hdr taken handheld. Removed noise and then used Topaz adjust plugin dramatic preset and then sharpened the image with unsharped mask in photoshop. All comments and critiques are welcome.
An empty belly is the best cook.

~Estonian ProverbGetting it Right on White: As we all know from looking at menus, ads and cookbooks, presenting food on a pure white surface or background is extremely popular. Which makes sense—it allows the colors, details & textures of the food to pop with vibrancy & crispness. So here are a few shots from last week demonstrating how a correct white balance setting is your friend.
Helpful Hints: To achieve a daylight appearance with your lighting, you’ll want to stay in the mid-range of the Kelvin scale…around 5,500k is considered ‘noontime sun’…so aim for that (keep in mind you may have to compensate for what the camera sees by adjusting the WB settings when shooting/processing). Also, mixing artificial light with natural light can really makes things difficult with balancing color temp–so try to pick one or the other.
